As we spoke of digital transformations in today’s world, it was quite fitting to note that even
though our Keynote Speaker, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information and
Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, GOI, was unable to be physically present at the event, he very graciously shared with us a video message, where he shared his thoughts on the topic of the conclave.

In his speech, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw shed light on the topic of the day by discussing the rapid
transition from traditional news medium to digital news and invited suggestions from the
speakers on how to navigate this transition in an ethical but innovative way. He further stressed
on today’s world, where most of the younger generation has moved from traditional news
sources like television and newspapers to digital news. He urged the speakers to come up with
ideas that can help us evolve with this AI-driven revolution, while promoting the sustainability of the traditional medium and protecting the livelihood of employees in traditional media.

While shedding light on the use of AI in digital news media, he also urged the speakers to discuss a way forward that would solve and protect copyright issues, and verify the credibility and authenticity of digital content while giving it the importance it deserves. He extended help and support on his and the government’s behalf in all matters that would enable navigating this
transition in a smooth manner, without disruptions. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw also expressed his
expectations of gaining a clear policy recommendation from the conclave’s discussions.

He concluded his speech by reiterating the role and responsibility of the media in today’s world
and urged them to keep an open mind as we navigate this transition. He spoke for the nation,
when he said that the country looks to the media with great expectation and thus the
responsibility of the media to disseminate information to the citizens, is one that should be
treated with utmost respect and consideration.
